Just had to share, I am a first time chicken owner ( I decided to purchase hatching eggs in the COVID rush 
) and I just got my very first egg! I have three Bielefelder hens and a roo. They started laying just after turning 7 months old. I'll admit, I thought they would wait to start laying until the weather warmed up, but nope! They were ready! I ended up having to go out and build the nest boxes out in the snow ā as I really didn't want them to learn to lay wherever, and I had procrastinated on the job in the fall
