This is my first time owning chickens. We got three light brahmas in mid March, three days old.

I knew there typical wait is 26 weeks, which I had calculated at 9/8, or so. I haven't been watching the nesting boxes, trying to be patient.

My husband mentioned the chickens sounding like geese lately, every so often.

My chickens are free range, when we're home. They have a little house we bought at the farmer supply store, that they stay in at night, and that home is inside an old dog kennel, where we let them run when we're not home during the day.

Every couple weeks, I change the bedding in their home, which includes some nesting boxes. I have been dumping the old, soiled bedding in a cardboard box that's also located in the covered dog kennel.

I went out to let them free range when I got home today, and noticed one of the chickens wasn't waiting at the door, like normal. She was sitting in that cardboard box with old shavings (which isn't unusual). I walked over to see if she was ok, and yay! Three new eggs in that box!!

I'm wondering if the goose call is their 'laying song'?

Very exciting day!

Thanks for all the info on this site!
