I'm going to have to agree with you on the incubation being difficult. I just had my second "hatch", if you want to call it that... I have to do some tinkering to figure it out more (even with following the directions to a "T"!) I'm not trying to discourage you at all, I'm just having difficulties.

That being said, I am ready to move my third batch to the hatcher today!!!

I can't wait to figure it out - the possibilities are endless!

So anyway, your brooder looks really cool! Good luck with your endeavor! Chickens (and BYC) are very addicting!!!

Also, I have RIRs and sex-links I bought from Tractor Supply. Right now they are friendlier than my Silkies! They are very inquisitive! Have fun!!!

The Brooder was very expensive, but I saw one at Agway and had to have one. It was $285. That is about as cheap as I could find it. It is a GQF Poultry Box Brooder. I think it is cheaper on Amazon.com but after shipping....... It is worth it to me as the only place I have to brood chicks is the basement. THe whole heat lamp thing unnerves me about the fire risk with my small kids around. This way I can sleep at night and don't have to worry when I am out during the day.

I am waiting for my Economy Candler / Cool-Lite Tester to arrive soon so I can see if my eggs I swiped from a friend are developing in the incubator.

They definitely waist less food in the outside trays, but haven't figured out the outside water thing. I had to put the normal waterer inside the brooder before they died of thirst! Plenty of food ends up on the floor though, they just do not poop in it or scratch at it. I think they are confused about the water because they spent a week in a box with a lamp before I got the new brooder. So they started on the bottle waterer.

I have a Nikon D70. It is a lot fun to use as well. I need to get it out of the camera bag more than I do. In fact, I am in Washington DC right now with my wife and We forgot the camera! How sad!!!
