So after literally MONTHS of searching for some actual adult coturnix closer than Denver, I finally found someone ten minutes away who had some!

Her pen was so clean and roomy and awesome, and the birds all looked great. I got one roo and four hens, all about 6 weeks old. They are Tibetans, regular pharaoh, and tuxedo mutts. She also had A&M's and Italian/goldens.

When my hubby opened the tote to transfer the birds into their new hutch, the roo flew out and off the porch onto the lawn!!! I laughed so hard watching this large bearded man chase this tiny bird around the yard!

Luckily he got him back safe and sound.

I built that hutch for about $30 ALL BY MYSELF! It turned out really good, I will get better pics soon.

Also, pics of my DIY cooler-bator in action. It holds temp perfectly and I am proud. Nine days left!!!

(Sorry about the bad pics, they are from my Nintendo DS lol)

OMG. I was just sitting out there watching my birds, and one hen was bunny hopping across the hutch O.O She wasn't panic/flushing, just doing little hops one after the other, only a couple inches off the ground. What in the world is she doing, besides making me LOL???

Sometimes they do these little hops to stretch their wings. I let mine "free range" in the basement or the garage sometimes and they will do a few of these hops and then take a little flight a few feet off the ground.

When quail hop around in the cage that mean's they are happy, my quail chick and older one hop around and on to my hand and start singing when I put their sand box in their pen. It's such a rewarding feeling knowing they are happy and like you. xD

Yep it Midori 緑 means "green:". I named my roo Ryuu 竜 because he has the spirit of a dragon!!! Seriously he will jump right over your shoulder when you open the door and fly off the porch. He's done it twice, so I clipped his wings lol.

Hana 花 for "flower", Izumi 泉 means "water spring" but I just picked it cuz it's pretty. and Rei 鈴 for "little bell".
