My first experience with coturnix quail!

Well, yesterday one of my roos attacked two of my hens. One had a slightly swollen eye, and the other had a hole pecked in the side of her face that I could see muscle through, and her eyelid was torn too. Luckily their eyeballs are ok, but the one looks like the phantom of the opera right now :( I'm pretty sure the roo in the cage below them was just egging him on so much he flipped out. Now I have the males on the bottom level with a divider between them, and the hens up top. *Sigh* Gotta finish my other pen so I can move them farther apart.
you don't just eat the trouble makers? I've never kept quail so I dunno

I'm looking into getting another batch of quail since my first bath seems defective... They STILL aren't laying!

Apparently my hens are feeling better, because I found FIVE eggs today. One was buried in the sand box, so I think it was from yesterday, but the other four were on top. I only have three laying hens in there... can cots lay more than one egg a day?

And the babies got their first dust bath today and they loved it.

Got some better pics today!

This is a pic of my eggs hatching, and the chicks at a couple days, and now at two weeks.

Notice my little runt Midget, he/she is half the size of the others, and hatched a day late.

This is the hutch, girls on top, the two roos are in the bottom, separated by a divider.

This is Hana, the best layer ever and just a calm sweety pie. She is just so cute and fat! I loves her.
