My first Hatch. Itzy and Ditzy's BBS Cochin eggs

Faint rings means fertility wasn't complete. And cochins in general have difficulty mating due to having so much feathers in the rear. The sperm sac won't make it to where it needs to be and be left on the feathers.

Day 6. Candled and didn't see anything. Could see the yolk some looked darker overall than others. One looked like I could see the tiniest dark spot that moved around when I moved the egg but didn't notice any veining. Not sure if it runs low since new thermometer has been around the 98 since I put it in. The govee has an average of 99 since this morning. Idk would that delay it that much that on day 6 I wouldn't see anything?

I have fluffy butted cochins and they have no problem getting the job done.

Also I don't bother to candle before day 10 then you will know 100% if they are fertile or not.

I'm at the end of the season on this side of the world and I set 20 cochin eggs 3 weeks ago..... 2 duds at day 10, 18 chicks hatched :) 20220331_190925.jpg 20211120_172944.jpg 20211120_172942.jpg 20211019_193831.jpg

I'm sure you'll get some fertilized eggs eventually! You've got this :hugs
I sure hope so! I very rarely see my roo mate with the girls but do know he has mated with Ditzy at least once. And yesterday I saw him with 2 different girls when I went out to visit. So sure he is doing his job he just isn't noticed much. LOL I do see him dance for them often and they walk away from him and he then looks all sad. haahaa!

If these ones aren't fertile I will probably wait 4-8 weeks to try again since I am getting chicks in 2 weeks so don't want to have to figure out brooding 2 different age groups so will wait till they are ready to mingle with the bigger ones which shouldn't be too long since I am brooding in the coop and heard from others most times they are ready to mingle around a month old. So hopefully waiting will help with the weather warming up maybe they will start feeling more frisky so I will have a good chance of them being fertilized. :)
