I have 10 eggs under a broody Orpington hen. That seems to be going fine. She's been really dedicated to the process. I'm ridiculously excited. My daughter (3) keeps asking about the chicks; 21 days is an inconceivably long time to her. There are Splash Maran and a Frizzle/Ameraucana and then 3/4 Silver Laced Wyandotte. It should be easy to tell which are which. :) The Wyandottes are from my neighbors flock and the others I purchased locally.

Question: with the resulting chicks, how to I medicate them for things like Mericks and coccidiosis?

Oh, there's nothing cuter than a hen with her chicks! I would call a hatchery and ask regarding the Marek's vaccination. Maybe they sell it? I'm not sure if it's a shot or an oral medication because I just have them vaccinate for me when the chicks are day old. Now, you could buy medicated chick feed, which is supposed to help prevent cocci.

Good luck and please post some pictures!

Hello, my Silver Laced Wyandotte's lay the biggest eggs I've ever seen in my life! That is a good breed for you. I'll let someone else recommend a treatment for your flock.
Isn't hatching Chickie's exciting for the entire family?!
Best of luck and I wish you much success on your endeavors!!

For coccidiosis, if you have that in your area and there's a good chance the chicks will get it, you can feed a medicated starter feed to guard against it.

For Marek's, if you want to vaccinate, you're gonna have to order the vaccine. It's fairly expensive, you have buy 1000 doses at a time, and the shipping Is expensive too. However, if your flock has Marek's and you need to vaccinate new chicks and the expense is worth it to you, you can order it here.
