Hey BYC,

James here. I just bought my first home and have been thinking about raising DP chickens. As a child I had some Rhode Islands but they were kept as pets. I hunt small game dress and prep all my own meat so I think i should be okay with the feathery gals (fingers crossed).

Any advice would be appreciated I'll list some basics below:

I'm building my own coop and run I have a wooden garden shed, I'll be converting half into housing.

I'd like to start with a small group. I maybe one dozen?

Would also like to breed but maybe I should wait until later when I have more keeping experience.

Like I said before I've had Rhode Islands before but maybe there's a better fit for me. I live in southern Ohio now so idk if they can handle the winters here.

Thanks again looking forward to making some friends here.
