I have raised birds for a while . but this is my first time using an incubator .

My first chick hatch this morning at about 2 am . I don't sleep much . I never expected the chicks to hatch . they were 3 days over due , I was about ready to ditch this batch . I was suposed to ditch them this morning , got busy and forgot all about taking the eggs out of the incubator .
I was watching a movie and paused for a bathroom break . I hear peeping , very loud peeping . I thought I wonder if a baby bird fell out of it's nest , I told you I never expected the eggs to hatch this is my third batch of eggs .I went to the back door looked out and listened , i hear it again , this time on the other side of the house , i went to the front door and listened ,nothing . Then on my return trip to the back door , I hear peeping again . I looked over at the incubator and thought " Couldn't be , hmmmm " I checked it and there , in the corner sat the prettiest gold and grey chick, still wet . I was so excited I woke up the whole house to come greet our newest arrival .
I have 4 different type ( color ) of cochins ,a dommeneck, black leghorns , and black ( please forgive the spelling ) winnedots and [5 production reds ( still chicks Bought chicks I might add . ) ] One huge peacock , 2 ginneas male and female , and 3 white ringneck doves .
This chick seems to be silver in color and yellow on the head and wings , with cute little brite pink feet .
I am hoping he won't be lonely and the other hatch soon . One more day won't hurt after all the were 3 days over due already .
I'm sorry but i had to share the news of my first ever hatching . I'm all smiles , tired but all smiles . Kate

I've only incubated once before, but didn't have a whole lot of luck either. I am going to give it another try and set eggs today. I'm hoping for a May 1st hatch. Armed with all the knowledge here I think I know some of the things I did wrong, so hopefully this one will go better.

This chick is a Cochin . He / She has cute little yellow feathers on it's legs . It's still in the incubator . It won't stop peeping unless I either hold it , or put it back in the incubator . He doesn't like the cage set up . When it starts to get hungry It will like it just fine .

I'm gonna have to post some pic's of my flock . I have a huge production red rooster , I had to take out of the chicken yard , he kept attacking my peacock . Something killed and ate my Belgain Quail Antwarp D`anvers Rooster , but the hen was fine, scared but fine . It also tour a 2 foot hole in my rabbit cage and ate my rabbit . My husband thinks it's a fox or coyote .I tend to agree with him . I was thinking a racoon , or a skunk but the cages were too high for a skunk . What ever it is doesn't like light , after I put a light in my chicken yard the attacks stopped .

Hi all,

Bought 28 eggs from an individual down the road. The eggs are a mix of RIR, he called top hat ( I think they are golden comets) and one batam hen. Of the 28 eggs 10 have hatched, one passed away while it tried to peep out of the shell. The 21 days was today, Friday April 10th. The first 10 hatched yesterday. Those were the smaller eggs. I'm going to hold out for another couple of days to see if I can manage to get a few more chicks. I read larger eggs take a little longer to hatch

A few of the remaining eggs sound different then others so I'm hoping they are fertile. I candled to late and all I can see is air space. Sorry guess I'm a little new to it all.

So for the first time trying it is good to have a little success.

Best of luck with your hatching.
