My first incubation experience!

Sorry to hear the rest haven't hatched. Perhaps it just wasn't to be. At least you have some to be getting on with though. Maybe you can get another batch on the go?
I just had been through the eggtopsy of some of them. I got some un-fertile and some early quitter. Though, one was completely developed :(. I guess he's fine till 21st cuz I can see it's beak, legs everything fully developed. I guess something went wrong with the humidity. I didn't read it before that door should be completely locked till most of the batch is hatched. We opened the door quite many times after the first couple of hatches. I then read it here that opening often may cause low humidity and hence causing other due hatch eggs become dead :(. IDK, may be that was sheer luck.

How are the others doing? Mine are flying all over the place, definitely testing out their wings!
They are great MA. Running around the brooder and quite active and healthy. I am regularly changing the kitchen roll bedding and it seems to work great. No poop stick up or anything. I just now need something else as feed jar as the one I am using, you can see that in their pics, is now being victim of their wild scratching :). I really love to see them running around and experimenting things. Everyone has it's own personality ;).

occasionally you have one that just doesn't make it out. sometimes they don't have an egg tooth, and sometimes they are just to weak. im glad you had success on hatching.

Thanks. Ya I am just focusing on the fact too that instead of having too many blunders still 3 of them popped out and are doing great MA.

Yeah, keep positive. My chicks are well covered with feathers now, still some fluffy down on their heads but nearly ready for the main coup I think. I'm just a bit worried about introducing them to my adult hen, Pie...whether she will peck at them and hurt them is the main concern. Thought I should maybe separate them in the coup for a day so she gets used to their presence/noise etc...
No feathers on the ducklings yet but they are quite a lot bigger now...still letting them have a swim in the bath every day.
Funny you should mention a problem with your feeder...I have a problem with my waterer, it tips over far too easily. I tried hanging it off the floor a little but as soon as they try to drink it starts tipping and the water goes to one side making it tip even more. I'm a bit worried they will run out of water when I'm at work...I'm topping it up at every opportunity.

Sighhhh for some reason it wont upload my pics. Our babies are doing great. I got three more bstches brooding. Two turkey and one chicken batch. All under birds. They should all be hatching by the end of the month or the first week of June. My tank incubator never worked right. Hubby asked me to give up and save money just yo buy one. Anyone have any thoughts one what is a good one. I need something that can do a good amount of eggs.

Haha. I think you'd try get a bigger one, it may not tip off due to higher weight. You can see my waterer and feeder in the pics. So far waterer is working great. The feeder is open mouthed so they can now easily get into it and do their wild scratching :). One of them, who hatched very first, do this the most. I think he inherited this from her high spirited mother. I remember her doing the scratching wildest in all the flock, but, yet she was the prettiest and my favorite :).

Oh. Try some other time may be you can then upload the pics. Good luck for the ongoing batch.

I have cleaned my bator this weekend. Fire it up and so far the temperature is consistent. I may put the chicken eggs tonight. I wanted to put them on the weekend but couldn't get time. I can't wait anymore as the eggs can't wait much in the hot and humid weather here. My quails started laying eggs too couple of days ago. I may put some of their eggs too with the chickens. But, confused on putting the chicks in the same brooder. I got only one brooder and I already spent too much on the poultry already. Planning not to pay anything further for at least a month except the feed for the birds.
The chicks I got are hyper-active MA :). They run and flew around in the brooder and the tallest one in them always tries to get out of the brooder, jumping over the wall. I am also planning to get around half a dozen buff orpington chicks from a family friend. Oh, that's another expense ;(.
