my first new chick-pics

Thanks for the support.Lurky, thanks for the hug!
The chick is a buff laced polish (are you listening, Coty Jo?)
Hi Melanie, your eggs are up next. Today was day 18. Cynthia's should hatch tomorrow. I will follow your advice, and do it from now on. I am also wondering if the chick was too big, she filled out the whole shell, it didn't look like there was any room left. The one that hatched must have got her butt stuck cause she has an absolutey naked butt! She was kinda lonely, so I put her on the dining room table in a clear storage thing, and she's much better, not this loud peeping all the time, just peeping.
Cynthia and Melanie, your eggs still look good and developed. Karen

I'm glad I intervened with my hatch of silkies. I am convinced from the fact that they all pipped one little hole, then NO zipping at all after over 12 hours, that the humidity was too low and they just couldn't get turned around in the shells to zip.

I zipped all 10 eggs in the end, and got 10 healthy chicks that are doing great a week later.

I'll not be reluctant to intervene anymore, especially if the egg pips but there is no progress after several hours.

This is my old incubator. This is how I was keeping the eggs from rolling around.
But I was using to many pipe cleaners so now I do it the way I said in my first post.

THE FAT PIPE CLEANERS WORK BEST.

Hi, I found some little rubber washers, so I will be putting them under the eggs. They are just the right size. Karen

Just a thought of mine.
I have noticed that eggs in our incubators really get rolled around like little bowling balls
when the first chick/chicks hatch and I was seeing a lot of chicks die for no aparent reason.
Thinking this could be one of the causes I set out to stop it.
I now cut a small square of the rubber shelf liner with the holes into about a 8X8 inch square
and place this in the middle of the wire rack THEN I take 4 of the FAT fluffy pipe cleanes and twist them
into a square and put that on the rubber mat THEN place my eggs on/in this for the hatch they do not
seem to get tossed around as much and my hatch rate did get better.
