I'm not quick to pull the trigger on someones pet, but I'm not going to have anymore dead birds from roaming pets.
NO ONE!! should have to tell a neighbor to keep their pet home. NO ONE!

You have to be a complete idiot not to realize that. And I'm not training anymore idiots on pet etiquette.

My grandson recently "saved" the life of neighbors Rat Terrier when he got between dog and my chickens. When I informed said idiot that she owed my grandson a thank you for saving her dog she had the typical indignant "my-dog-would-never...." attitude. I didn't debate it with her I simply informed her if I ever saw her dog on my property again, EVER, it was dead and, by law, she would be responsible for any damages dead dog had caused. Before she could respond I walked away. She got rid of THAT dog. But said idiot replaced it with 2 Pit Bulls. If her intent was to intimidate me she's a bigger idiot than I thought, I'll just use a larger caliber.

I'm sorry but that's just cruel to place a dog in the road for the corpse to be splattered and flattened. The owners do have feelings ya know.

I am so sorry your chickens were killed, i know that even though i am new to this these lil ones are like my babies, i would be crying my eyes out !! I read the other posts and no one seemed to mention this but is there a leash law for dogs in your area?? If so, i would give the owner one warning, if it happens again you should be within your rights to shoot it and report it to the police, might even be a good idea to report it now to the police before it happens again!

I was referring to the two birds that the dog had already killed. My thinking was that if it was a one-time deal, dog accidentally got out, I'd let the neighbor know what happened, and that Fido wouldn't be coming home again if I ever saw it on my property again. I agree with your solution for the Pit Bulls. I know that they can be gentle dogs, but I certainly wouldn't want them roaming around my yard! Especially if I had a young child around. (Don't know how old your grandson is, but if he's little, those Pit Bulls wouldn't be given a chance...)
