I live in western Kentucky and tonight had a large possum making his way to my coup! I live very rural so I had my wife grab my 22 rifle although I have larger caliber why wake the 3 neighbors? I shot the possum 4 times with lead bullets wth!!! I then loaded my gun with copper hollow points and 1 shot did the job! Moral of story ? Use copper plated hollow points in 22

I’m from Florida and I recently had the second one I sadly had to shoot! If I can catch them I release them at the end of my property line so they get annoyed coming here. This last one was up on my porch in the night. Male and a pretty good size harassing some of my cages. It was not at all spooked when I came out so I ran back in and grabbed my 22. I used the basic 22lr. My first shot through the back was the killer but I shot again quickly more out of panic. Then I did a head shot so there was no chance of unnecessary suffering. My first possum I had a clean headshot but it was another close range kill. It had my chicken feathers in it’s mouth. It wanted my wild birds eggs. I don’t prefer killing animals I don’t eat but for my pets protection in the moment I’ll act quickly. If they don’t scare from my presence they risk the fate they positioned my animals into.🤷‍♀️

They also have some fun Outdoor deterrents like noise triggers like my simple favorite Halloween sensor props like those dog skeletons that bark when you walk by! I have a 6ft dinosaur that I keep under a tarp out there. When anything walks by at night this thing roars, lights up, and it’s skeletal jaw moves. I think it’s hilarious! I have also set up wire traps so when they hit it things fall and they run off. Just two ideas but there are more crafty people out there than myself, I’m sure!
Let me know of more pet safe animal deterrents!

Never had a possum this big the thing was furry and well fed, just for the record I don’t enjoy killing and my first shots were a polymer colored lead bullet must of went clean through, I have thought about the dancing skeletons for Halloween they sell but if they are near the gals they seal their fate and that goes for any predators

I have had a possum dig under a fence and kill a bird. Since I put up electric wires around my pens. No more diggers. I did put traps out inside the pen where it had dug and shut the birds in their coop and left the dead bird out at the traps and the possum came back and got into the traps. I eliminated it.
