Well, the deed is done. Stumpy was a magnificent Buff Orpington roo, but he was one mean son of a gun. I couldn't have people help me take care of the chickens, because he attacked them - we knew how to fend him off, but I couldn't ask anyone else to deal with him. So he's - um- going to be delicious tonight. My SIL and her friend, who is very familiar with raising and processing poultry came over today and did the job for me. I can't help but feel a bit bad for him, I did raise him from a chick, but it was necessary. It's so darned quiet out there, though......but we do have a new roo coming, a much smaller EE bantam roo, who is actually a bit smaller than some of the hens, but he's not tiny - and he's nice to his girls, I've been told, Stumpy wasn't. A bit bittersweet, but it all goes with raising poultry, doesn't it?

I've been preparing to get rid two of my roosters.

I thought i had bought two hens but they turned out to be boys!

So i've got four roosters and three girls.

I love them all!!
