Upon candling at day 10, it looks like the cream legbar eggs are not doing well. They are all blotchy and not well developed. All my other eggs are fine, but I don't hold out much hope for the legbars.

Yeah, I don't think any of my legbar eggs made it, either. I'm just going to save up my money and buy some chicks when they become available on MPC, I think

Have you ever done ducks? Do you even have ducks? And do you like them? Just curious.

No ducks in Chickentown yet, but I'm thinking about digging a pond and getting call ducks next year.

Call ducks are beautiful!!! The only real breeds I have that are 'Real' are my Muscovy Drake, Welsh Harlequin and my khaki Campbell Drake.

And my mixed cresteds I saved from a farm sale, almost pecked to death by chickens.

Although people say crested ducks have very many Heath problems, I have never lost any duck, any breed, to any health related problems. Just to other animals
But I hope you get ducks

The biggest problem with crested ducks is the same gene that gives them the crest can cause a hole in the skull that kills chicks while they're still developing in the shell. As far as I know, once they hatch out, they're as healthy as any other ducks. They're fortunate that you were there to rescue them. <3

I don't have a lot of space, so a few call ducks will probably be all the more I do in the area of waterfowl. First thing I do when I take over the property from my dad is put up a fence to keep the birds (mostly) in the yard e_e Then I can think about digging a pond and getting ducks.

I just put 25 eggs from my "Gru Project" into the incubator. They're eggs from my Ameraucanas, Black Copper Marans, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Jersey Giant, and an Australorp/EE mix with Gru (An Australorp/EE mix as well.)

I'm stalking MPC's overhatch announcements today int he hope I'll be able to snag an Ameraucana rooster to add to my order that's coming this week. Perhaps if I'm especially lucky, I'll even be able to get a bcm rooster, too. Dare to dream, right? Even if I don't, I've got 5 white leghorn chicks and 3 black frizzle cochins coming this week.

Nice! I can't wait to see pics of the babies. I bet Gru's will be lovely.

ETA: I'm putting eggies into my new homemade 'bator today as well. As many of my lav orps and SFH as I could collect over the past week and a half and then a collection of EE and OE with lav orp roo. I'm excited!

Alas, no Ameraucana roos on MPC this morning. I'll just have to wait. I have plans to save up my pennies and buy cream legbars when 2015 availability is announced. When I order them, I'll probably add BCM and Ameraucana roosters to the order.

At the moment, I need to thin down my flock. I have about 20 roosters I need to either process or rehome so that I can start housing part of my "keeper" flock in that coop.
