I was always the first girl to be set up at the local swaps. I knew everyone in the area and even people far away. I'd been raising birds since I was a young girl. I had the fanciest Millie Fluer D'uccles at the time. When I was 14 I contacted by people from Canada wanting to buy my chicks. I used to be all about chickens I grew up being the crazy bird girl and I just lived ate and breathed all things poultry. So, by the time I was 20 I found my self in an odd situation where I wanted to travel but I had entire chicken farm to my name already and I felt very stuck. Well fate intervened and I had to sell off all my birds a few at a time.
Six years later I'm finally ready to be back in the chicken business and I have to admit I'm rusty. I feel foolish everyone at the swaps acts like I'm brand new, I lost all my connections just about and have nothing extremely fancy when it comes to birds. But I'm happy to report that my first spring hatch after a 6 year leave has been a success!!!
I've managed to hatch Cochin bantams and beautiful Comets and one little lone duck (I only had 2 duck eggs and I lost one of the ducklings during his hatch for unknown reasons) Along with some amazing silkie chicks.
Any way now that I can put the incubator away till summer I just wanted to show off my babies and brag a little on them. Because it feels good to do the chicken thing!
