My first step is building a Coop

Using the suggested questions to introduce myself.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
im new to raising chickens but as a child we had full free range chickens. One of my chores was to hunt for eggs in our yard. We had no coops.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I plan to have 6 hens. No decision on breeds yet.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Artist, oil paint, photography, pencil portraits.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and lived there my first 16 years. My parents were missionaries, teacher, nurse. Always have had pets of all kinds. I had a pet chicken in my 4th grade until it became a meal for a hawk.
I found this community while searching for information on Internet.
Welcome to BYC!! Barred Rocks and Orpingtons are always great starter birds, good at laying and really friendly! If your looking for some with more personality, Easter Eggers are the way to go. If you want some to go broody (sit and hatch eggs) Australorps and Silkies are good mothers.
