My first time - almost day old chick having problems.

That's so odd, I'm curious to know what's wrong.

Sounds like you are doing everything right and sometimes it just happens.

I went through it last May when our day-old chicks arrived from the hatchery. Lost 5 of them in the first 2 days here but I know I did everything I possibly could to help pull them through.

And Hello, from another Tennessean!

Well my little chick has passed. I've been watching it all morning and I tried everything and still it didn't make it. It never did get any worse, it just finally quit breathing..........

Thanks for all your help.............Now I'll compose myself so I can deal with the kids when they get home.

McChick, the exact same think happened to one of my chicks in December. She hung on for 5 days. It was very sad. I think you get real attached them as you nurse them. Sorry,

Karen

Thanks for all your kind words everyone. I'll learn to toughen up over them eventually. The kids actually took it better than I thought they would. They were worried that it was hurting for too long.

They dropped off 3 more (yikes!) and one has a bum leg. Not sure how to handle that.
