Hello all!

This Spring I purchased some breeding stock Silkies. Dad is a Blue Splash and mom is a white paint. She finally went broody for me on 5/2. She currently has 6 eggs under her.

I know it will soon be time to candle, but I have never done this before. What recommendations do you guys have and what should I look for?

Thank you for your help!

Mama is a proven broody and great mother.

Yes, bright light and a dark room is key. With white eggs, I find the flashlight on my phone to be sufficient provided I am standing in a closet. :D If you have never candled eggs before wait until they are least ten days into incubation. You should see veins all around the inside of the shell and movement.

I have embryos!!!!! I quickly candled last night and at least 3 of 6 are growing. I'm going to spend more time tonight looking at them and trying to get a few pictures.
