Yay! My chicks arrived bright, early and cold this morning here in "sunny" FL. I Brought them home and besides acting sleepy at first everyone is fine. My question is, what does pasty butt look like? I inspected everyone's rear and they all seem fuzzy and unpasted.

Is it more subtle than that? If I don't see it from just a basic glance do they not have it? Thanks!

First of all welcome to chicken ownership! Pasty butt is a clump of gluelike substance. It amost like a sticky putty and unmistakable. It usually takes a couple of days so check the bums daily Pics please!

Waaaaaah! I want more chicks! The feed store is getting Partridge Cochins in today..... I wanted a Blue Cochin, but..... I have an EE with Partridge coloring and she's gorgeous. Hmmmmm.

Oh, ummm, congratulations on your first chicks! You won't miss pasty butt, trust us.

Thanks everyone! I know how serious pasty butt can be so I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed it. I'll keep my eyes open for it.

Well .... guess I should have taken a pic before I cleaned my chicks bum...lol...just checked them all because I had been reading about it on here. Only had 2 out of 6 so I guess thats not so bad, anyway, as far as mine went----Regular butt is pink with hole, pasty butt the hole is not visible and there is a black hard poo in the way of hole....kinda graphic but...it is what it is.
