Congrats Miss P sure are doing a fine job on those orps. Is red a normal color for orp's. Sorry I am into the orps and dorkings but am not sure on the colors they all come in. I do want them though LOL.

Well, generally speaking they are all girls until proven different.

But - hatch enough chicks and they tend to tell you who they are.

Look at the beaks, the legs, the rounded out body, many things - you can read the clues.

I am thinking this one is a pullet.

Great pics MP and what an awesome result. I would have guessed it would revert back to a dark buff, but the new baby is so much like Big Red. That is awesome! If it is a girl, will you breed her back to Big Red to see if you can push the red to breed true? I wonder if pairing them would revert back to blue and buff? Hmmm. What a neat project. LOL You know me, I love this sort of stuff. And I really enjoyed their beautiful red coloring. Looking great so far.

Zoo - red is not a standardized color. Red Orps across the pond are deep mahogany like show quality RIR's.

My flaming red orp intrigues me. Has thrilled me from the beginning. This little project is mine and I love this flaming red color I was fortunate to get tossed into my lap by the powers that be.

Thank you, Jody. I do plan to breed her back. I have more eggs going in tonight.

I have a second project I am waiting to start with your buffs and Julie's RIR. They are all about the same age and looking amazing! The RIR's are so deep and lovely and of course you know your golden girls I hatched are gorgeous buffs. Fingers crossed - who knows where this will lead!

Thanks Cyn - Guess it's best to be optimistic! And I am absolutely NO judge of sexing chicks - I've only gotten one hen from my spring hatchlings and she's named Uncle Leland
