I didn't let my birds out that day and he came and I have 2 separate coops. On the large one I have 10 RIRs, 10 BR, and 1 Araucana. In the second coop I have 15 Welsummers.

First we tested the Welsummers and after we did the swab and blood test. We left them in the coop and 1 by one tested them. After we tested one I put them in a wire cage. Then 30 or so minutes later we were done with them. I left them in the cage until we tested everything.

Second we tested my 21 in the large coop. That took a little longer because I had to catch them! The man got a good laugh out of that! About 40 minutes later we were done with that coop. I just sat them down to free range after they were tested. Then I put the Welsummers back in there coop.

Third we tested my 7 ducks. That was easy.

Easy easy to do and really cheap! Only $5 to test the whole flock!

NPIP (national poultry inprovement plan) this is an organization that tests for certain diseases. It tests for U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid and bird flu. There tests are cool.

Cynthia, I got my flock tested for a piece of mind mostly. I also am starting to find good quality birds from other NPIP members and I want to have a healthy flock. I'm selling chicks and hatching eggs and it is a big deal for quality to be NPIP around here. I want to start hatching, selling, and distributing chicks and eggs. I have been told in order to "legally" ship eggs of chicks through the mail you must be NPIP. Is this true? Thanks!
