My flock---PICTURES =]

This truly is very cool and good to hear. I have a question. Is this normal, my gobblers were strutting today and this skittish hen was near them, getting grit fine, then outta no where she took off running about 50 feet away. I guess she got spooked by them. She hasnt laid down for one of them or laid an egg. Is this normal for them to run off like that? I dont think she has even thought about mating yet. Also, i would love for my hen to attract wild ones! I would love to cross breed with a wild turkey!

Any flock will have a pecking order, she doesn't know where she fits in yet. For all she knows, they are a flock and going to attack her. She'll get comfortable in time... Even if she was ready to lay, it could be a bit delayed by the move. Even chickens will quit laying when they get relocated. As far as the wilds? As long as they don't do what these guys did and perch for the night on a tree right outside your door. I was constantly cleaning up turkey poop!

I did have a young wild that I caught when I had the door to a shed open... she went out into the covered run instead of back out the entrance. And honest, I am not making this up... She trapped herself on Christmas day, after I had spent the better part of the summer trying to capture her. I had noticed that she walked with a limp, and one day got a clear view with binoculars. She only had one foot, the other foot had one partial toe. I was afraid that she wouldn't make it through the winter like that, and she was kind enough to capture herself for me. I named her 'Peggy' because it looked like a peg leg. She did get so she didn't totally freak when I went in with her, though since it was winter I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked with her. Unfortunately, when it was almost spring, a raccoon got into the pen and killed her. I was heart broken...

I always hate getting attached to the ones with special needs. They always get my love. Last year a had a little bugger and i couldnt bring myself to cull him. He had spradle leg and he lasted for about 8 weeks and died. I was crushed. If they have special needs, i get so attached because i spoil them lol. But i have a flock in my woods but its not really all that close to my house. I would love to capture one but i dont really have a fenced in run. Just a Cow pasture with 4 feet high fence for them in the day.

Anyway, where you said she doesnt know where she fits in, she follows around the 2nd tom (not dominant) and they pal around but since he was strutting i guess she didnt know what to do lol. shes been here for 5 days and the pecking order has been sorted out i think.

No need to apologize, KO, because my jennies EAT my toms' tailfeathers out!
