Hey y'all,
One of my Frizzles was with a rooster for awhile. Now she has no more fluffies. All she has is the quills. She looks awful and it's gonna get colder soon. How long before she's not naked. I'm keeping her warm but what about the other one that's free range? And is there something I can put on her... a sock or something?

She doesn’t look all that bad. A breeding saddle if you can find one that fits may help. Is this a pullet from this year or an adult hen? Adult birds should molt this fall/winter if they haven’t already. Keeping her separate isn’t going to help her grow new feathers any faster and may end up stressing her out instead. If she isn’t acting off or getting scratched up I wouldn’t worry too much. Extra protein will help with growing new feathers while they molt. I have 2 half naked hens who are molting right now and we’ve been having temps in single digits, thankfully that’s about to change with a heat wave coming in to thaw things out a bit.

This is Curly, my only fizzle hen who has never laid an egg. I had an overly amorous rooster who bred her way too often and even scratched her back up a bit. She was naked most of the summer but finally molted and grew a new set in the fall. That rooster is gone now and none of the other boys seem to have an interest in her so no more broken feathers!
