"Fuzzy" was a tan splash silkie. She slept in our spare bathroom (out in her private pen during the day) for almost 3 years because she had wry neck and would relapse if stressed (by roos, extreme temps, etc). She suddenly stopped eating, but I didn't know, because she pecked at her food and drank water. Maybe she had a blockage

? I carried her outside and back in every day/night for all those years (silly, I know), and gave her vitamins during her "episodes". I'm really bummed

We were just talking yesterday about how hard it is to try to save and/or take care of a "special needs" chicken, and then have them die on you. I can imagine how you must feel after three years. We just had our Little Chicken (LC) euthanized yesterday, she was a special needs chicken also. I have been so down for the past couple of days. I always tell myself and my family "remember....try not to get too attached".. Ha.

back at ya. Who, me? Attatched?
One day I put her in a different outdoor spot, with plywood on the top for shade and protection. Well, I was using the handle of a pick-ax to hold up one sidewall of the pen. I attempted to adjust it's placement, and it fell AND LANDED ON HER HEAD! She thew her head back and keeled over! This was about 4 mos. ago. I cried out "Oh my god!" and picked her up. I was POSITIVE she was dead and that I had killed her!

I ran in the house with her, sobbing, and told DH what happened. He got teary too! Well, she came out of it within about 5 minutes, but needless to say, her neck was all twisted again! Gave her prednisone and vitamins, and by day 4 she back to her normal self

Don't feel bad...I was too embarrassed to mention this before, but I almost killed LC once by leaving her outside in the shade....the sun moved, and by the time I remembered her a couple hours later she was half dead with heat stroke, we revived her quickly but ....next day she was out in the rain too..I felt terrible.

I am so sorry for your losses! I put down my special needs guy this morning and it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. (He's the first death in my chicken family) My little fuzz-butt was 15 weeks old and just not put together for this world. He sure did enrich my life though, and I will cherish his memory always.

RIP Fuzzy, Little Chicken & Wheezy Wheezleton!

Huge Hugs.
