My German Shephard ate 2 chickens!

So sorry for your loss.
I have dogs and chickens. They are getting along great so far.
I thought at first I was going to have to keep them separated. I considered fencing off a larger section of the yard for free ranging outside of the pen and coop. I thought if I had to, I could run a hot wire to keep the dogs away.
I also knew that if I free ranged them, I might lose one every now and then.
But I wanted to keep my dogs and so far it is working out great.
I would say, keep them both and figure out a fence to keep them apart. You will most likely need to hotwire it so your dog does not try to dig under or overpower the fence.
good luck

Thats so sad!!!!

We have 2 german shepherds and we're going to be verrrrry careful with them and the chickens when the chicks come. But the dogs are fenced in so it shouldn't be that bad. So sorry for your loss!!!!

I have a FREE rangin Black Wyandotte I keep out to test my Moose (Yellow Lab lookin dog). He has been very naughty too. A meeting of minds has discouraged him from wantin chicken from now on. And my FREE rangin Black Wyandotte cock is still FREE and wandering. He seems to have a nice spot safe from all. And my Moose ignores him now. Eventually your dog will get the idea. It may take a while, like my dog.

BUSTED for eatin chix too! Moose was trialed and punished! His name was not changed cause he is not innocent.

Yup some dogs can be very untrustworthy around chickens and gamebirds esp the sporting types..

My last training sessions i used SportHunter 800 training collar system to train my two labs (hunter & Bella).. it worked perfectly..they learned within a few days chickens and gamebirds are off limits unless hunting in the field. Most dogs can learn right from wrong rather quickly when taught properly.. i used a similar collar system on my last labs from the past that both past of old age (Goldie & Buddy) and were always trustworthy after that training..... my labs will lay outside with the chickens while they free range around them and no worries after the training...
