my girl Dixie

Everyone's story is so heart-touching. It's such a blessing to have these animals in our lives, and I know they know the love and compassion we have for them and give it back to us threefold. Blessedly, all our animals have been healthy, although all but one was abandoned by their previous owners.
Crazy4Chicks - I had to laugh when you described Dixie and how she's lazy in the morning and an escape artist. We have a beagle and that's her to a T! She's usually the last one up in the morning and, while she will follow me from room to room, she always finds the most comfortable place to lay (usually one of our beds or a cushy chair). She will climb a 6 foot fence to join me at the barn if I have the nerve to leave her locked in the dog run, and if there's food left on the counter, you can pretty much bet she'll be counter surfing if no one's watching too closely.

There is not a day that goes by that she doesn't make me laugh.
We are all truly blessed by these animal angels that come into our lives. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your stories.

out of all the animals here Dixie is the one i am most protective of - she is the one who gets the longest scratch behind the ear, sneaks an extra cookie-but is also the one who will drive me crazy faster than the rest LOL she is not quick about doing anything you need her to do ( like going out in the morning or coming in ) but she is my heart and here she will stay until its time for her to pass to the rainbow bridge which i hope is not for many many years.

I have favorites too....I think that is just fine.
Sometimes a certain animal really reaches out and grabs your heart.
Your Dixie is a beauty, man did she have a ton of pups!

that was an oops breeding with her and my male boxer Wally- she had 8 boys and 2 girls - all healthy and all found great homes.
Because of the injuries to Dixie's hips/pelvis she did not heal properly and was not able to deliver her puppy's - so she had to have an emergency c-section on halloween morning LOL trick or treat cost us 600.00 but it was worth it ( Dixie also got fixed during the c-section )
