I have a chicken who had some stress a year ago form the other chickens. I separated her and reintroduced her back into the flock a few months ago. She seems to be doing fine now, except now we she is laying two eggs every other day. One is always a regular strong shelled egg and the other is a thin membraned egg that is always broken. She will drop them from the perch in the middle of the night, or be playing in the run and suddenly stop and drop the eggs.
The good egg usually always has a white ring around the top where the other egg lays against it in her during the egg making process. She is 2- 3 years old.
It's a shame because her eggs are the most perfect eggs of the bunch.... if anyone knows about this, please let me know if there is anything that can possibly be done for her....
Thank you Backyard Chicken Family, I appreciate you!

Yes, there's treatment. I had a young hen back in the beginning of this egg laying season do exactly as your hen is doing - laying one normal egg, followed closely by a shell-less or thin-shell egg.

The danger of this is that the soft egg can more easily get stuck and break inside, causing awful problems. The treatment is calcium citrate at least 400mg, preferably with D3 and minerals, once a day or broken in half and given twice a day until laying gets back to normal.

The calcium can be smashed into powder and sprinkled over food or given directly into the beak. Watch the eggs for signs of calcium deposits and that will be the signal to stop the treatment. The deposits may persist for several weeks after treatment, but she should be back to laying a single egg each time.

Sometimes there is a just a glitch in the system that will often work itself out. A bird that age might be close to the end of her major laying, especially if she is a hatchery bird. May be close to the end of her life, she would be on my cull list this fall.
