We found our frizzled Easter egger whining and crying when we went to let her out of the coop this morning. She has not stopped. Sounds almost like a horn or goose with a few hiccup noises. Very consistent cry for over 3 hours now. No idea how long before morning she started. She is walking and scratching and pecking at the ground like normal. Gave her food and she ate like crazy. Have checked her over. No obvious trauma. Her beak is closed and no discharge. At a total loss for ideas. Please help Petula feel better.

How old is she? Has she started laying eggs yet? The behavior you describe is that of most hens that are feeling the urge to lay an egg. They are usually extremely vocal before they finally decide to head to the nesting box.

FYI- a vocal, loud chicken is a chicken that feels happy and well. Sick or injured chickens are always silent and also usually self isolate, not wishing to call attention to themselves in their vulnerable state.
