My girl was attacked help!!!

I can attest to a product called MediHoney. It's got incredible healing potential. Both NICUs my preemie girls ended up in used it on skin tears and wounds from IV sites. It works miracles. Honey does have some very strong healing capabilities when you use the correct products. Everyone is gonna have their own opinions on natural products and remedies. I use a lot of them in my house. I've had people literally call me "crazy." But we see results and that's what matters to me.

Thanks everyone. She is going through a hard molt. Thats why so many pin feathers. She is literally covered in them i feel terrible for having to even handle her right now. I found more wounds on her side. Looks more like a dog bite from the spacing of them. Her vent was also ripped at one side.

I am picking up more wound spray and povidone-iodine right now, there is no Vetericyn at any local TSC right now.

I also only have doxy for antibiotics. Should i start her on that.

She seems totally fine. Eating and drinking and talking to me.
Were you able to trace where the dog came from?

It’s important because all animals carry bacteria in their mouths, but with feral dogs it’s usually much worse—their diet alone explains why. A domesticated dog’s bite, on the other hand, isn’t nearly as concerning as a cat’s. From the images you shared, it definitely looks canine.

If you show me the label for the doxy, I can tell you the dosing.

None of the wounds you showed look life-ending. just keeping at bay. And for PM I just got- that is the vent.

We usually keep a wounded chicken separate from the flock while they heal so that the others won't peck the wounds and worse, attack the patient in their vulnerable state.

Veterycin is an excellent wound treatment, but for large wounds, it's necessary to use a product that will keep the tissue moist to promote cell growth. Veterycin won't maintain the necessary moisture. Even plain petroleum jelly can help to do this, if you have nothing else.

Flushing the wound each day is extremely important as it will wash away accumulated bacteria, keeping infection at bay.

Her neck wound and the wounds on the other side of her body

I am assuming it was my neighbors 3 legged dog who has already killed chickena from the back farm. we dont have too many strays where im from but we do have other wild life.

I assume the bird is isolated?

So for a standard breed (+/- 4.5 pounds-ish),
If you’re treating only one bird (like after a dog bite):
  • scant ⅛ teaspoon (about 0.6g powder) in 500 mL (½ L) of drinking water.
  • Offer as the only water source for that day.
  • Make fresh daily or refrigerate for no more than 48 hours- bring to room temp before offering.
  • Duration: 7 days

When we have bites in aves, with excessive swelling or necrosis develops, a broad-spectrum combination (e.g. amoxicillin/clavulanate or trimethoprim-sulfa) might be more appropriate—dog bites can include anaerobes and mixed flora. Keeping the wound moist does promote healing.

However if those wounds are clean, topical may just do the trick. I have seen far worse- it's that crazy molt that seems like this may have happened before recently? or something... that amount of pin feathers is unusual so I can understand why you don't want to handle her.

Doxycycline is an excellent med for respiratory illness but not really suitable for bacterial infection of wounds. Amoxycillin is far more effective. You can get it here. https://hardypaw.com/products/fix-mox-amoxicillin-capsules-fish-antibiotics?variant=44787640008865
That is exactly correct!
  • First-line: Amoxicillin (e.g., 20–25 mg/kg PO or in water twice daily for 7 days if I remember correctly).
  • Alternative: Doxycycline only if that’s the only available antibiotic, and you’re managing a superficial wound with proper antiseptic cleaning (which i think is the case).
  • If swelling, pus, or necrosis: switch or combine with a second drug that covers anaerobes (e.g., metronidazole if you have vet oversight or.... you can get it for fish over the counter).
Edit: I cant spell anymore.

Okay now her poop is like this 🥲

i did see anything like this in her coop over the last few days.

Im so stressed 😫

Her first molt was just as bad as this one. Im really hoping its not this bad evertime.
