Hi everyone, I just lost one of my very first chickens on Saturday. I'm so lost because this has never happened before. A hawk ended up decapitated my silly Brown Leghorn Libby, and her best friend/sissy Sunny, Buff Orphington, has just been so sad. I got both of them at the same time, and they basically grew up together. I did end up buying more chicks a couple months after them, so my Sunny girl is not lonely, but I can tell by her behavior she's been sad. She refuses to leave my side when she sees me. I feel so hopeless for her. I just don't know what to do. How can you make a grieving chickie happy? Is there such a thing to do? Just curious.. I've been telling my family & friends that I plan on buying her a puppy to help heal the emotional pain, but we already have a dog that thinks she's a chicken, and hangs out with them constantly. I just don't know anymore. If you have any advise, I'd love to hear it.

Good news is she will be ok, the loss is still pretty fresh but time heals everything. You will just have to devote a little bit extra until that happens. All your ladies will eventually be one single group, it just takes chickens forever to totally accept anything just like it takes forever for them to get over anything.
