I would ask for the exact statute concerning dogs and livestock and then look it up for yourself rather than take the word of a sheriff that might just not want to deal with any "neighbor problems". Sounds a bit fishy to me...

Unfortunately, quigley could be right. We've often read of county officials misquoting the law or just making it up or assuming it's something that it's not. You should always look up ordinances in writing, even print out copies for yourself and anyone else who needs it, like the irresponsible dog owner who thinks his dog gets a free pass just because it's a dog.
