my girls comb got ripped what do I do?

I am relatively new at chickens. I have 6 chickens that are about 6 months old. My white leg horn has ripped the back of her comb. What do I do for her. She is bleeding.

I read somewhere that chickens are carnivores so I separated her from the rest.

I haven't figured out how to post a picture. I can email you one if you would like.

* Wash, disinfect, stanch the bleeding with pressure or stytic, apply NON-benzocaine antibiotic ointment and keep her from the others til healed.

Good luck with your chicken. I'm sure she will be fine..that happens a lot and some dub their chickens with no infections at all so should be fine.

If it won't stop bleeding, put a pinch of flour on it to help with that. Other than that, just throw her back in the pen, she will be fine.

I had a Speckled Sussex hen named Spot a few years ago that got her Comb Sliced by something sharp I believe on our feeder. She had a Comb larger than the Rooster and more personality than most and was one of my favorites, as well as a good layer. Well I noticed her bleeding and shaking her head and Believed it would stop. About an hour later I could see that it was not stopping and she was looking weak and pale. I realized she was going to bleed to death! I hurried and got her in a blanket and sat her on my lap and drove her to the Vets office. I drive a Ford Stick Shift, and juggling the bird, steering wheel and Gearshift was somewhat of a challenge. Spot kind of Perked up for the Ride with her head at the window. I still see the lady at the Stop light in the next lane looking up at Spot and I with this (OH my Gosh Its a Farm Girl out for a ride with her Chicken!) look on her face!
Well we got the vet and more looks from everyone else in the waiting room with there more Conventional Dogs and Cat Pets. Oh Well… I sat down to wait my turn.
Spot is a Talker. If any of you out there have a hen that is vocal you know what I mean. All the time Squawking about something. She was making so much noise and wanted out of the Blanket. There was a Coon Hound that defiantly knew What Spot was, But Everyone else Just Stared and Slid away from us.
We finally got in a Procedure room and the Vet simply disinfected the wound, got it dry and quickly coated the cut with super glue! It never bled again and she was good to go. He did however tell me that it was his first Chicken treatment and he hoped I would never tell anyone. So Of course this is my favorite Chicken Story.
