my girls seem to prefer too sleep in the nesting box

I don't know why but my chickens do not seem to like the perches i have built but prefer to sleep and poop in their nesting boxes every night is this normal?

Mine do it too. I am going to change out their perch for something broader and flatter as they don't seem to like the big tree branch they currently have.

I have about 40 chickens--most of them use the roosts, but several prefer the nest boxes. I just let 'em be.

What are your "perches" constructed of?

Ours are 2"x2"s with the edges sanded to make them less sharp--the angular but not sharp seems to work well for them.
