Hi,
I really need someone to tell me what they honestly think as I have a goose that I found wandering around on her own on a road over 3 years ago as a newly hatched, she was only a few hours old. I rescued her and raised her and she is now one of the family. she is a pink foot I think and for the last 2 years she has laid a clutch of eggs up in the horse stables that are not being used.
These eggs never hatched as I have no gander so this year when she laid a clutch of 7 eggs in the same place I replaced them with 7 goose eggs that I bought,
I candled these eggs a few days ago and 6 out of the 7 are definitely fertile.
She has now been on these eggs 22 days only coming off very briefly to feed and have a dip in the pond.
However when I came home from work today she was off the nest so I went and checked and the eggs were really cold but I did find a clutch of bantam eggs in the stable that I didn't know were there that were very warm,
I removed the bantam eggs and watched her go back in the stable,
She went straight to the spot where the bantams eggs were and looked confused when they were not there.
I then showed her the goose eggs that she had covered up and she went straight back on them and is still on them now.

The problem is that she could have been off them for up to 24 hours.
Definitely no longer than this and maybe not that long as I check on her every evening from a distance when I get home.
Are these eggs or the goslings inside them now dead ?
I am really gutted as she is desperate to become a mum and I cant believe this has happened.

Can someone please let me know what they think ?

Many Thanks,
Mark

Agreed. As long as the eggs didn't freeze, they will likely be fine. Even better if she had them covered up. Its amazing how they manage to keep them going.
Really, I hope so, its been 27 degrees here today and the eggs were covered up and not out in direct sunlight,
you have made me feel a lot better, many thanks for your reply

Welcome to BYC. My gut is that they will still be viable . Hatching may be a bit later than expected. Good luck.
lets hope so, I cant believe it after 22 days, I thought all was lost but you people have given me a bit of hope so many thanks for you reply.
