Hi, just love the photo of the straw sticking out the wings!! Nice rocks and water pond for them too.

I don't think that is straw it looks to me like angel wing where the feathers are worn down to the quill.

you are right, it is angel wing, i got her as a 3 month old bird, so there wasnt much i couldve done, but she is happy and very protective of her little nest

haha thanks for complimenting their pond

it used to be my dads koi pond but i kinda changed that lol, and the only other inhabitant(sp?) in that pond is a turtle that walked up a hill 400 yards from my turtle pond to be a loner in his own pond lol, we are all still amazed that the turtle found the pond and got into the fenced yard

Have you ever considered clipping back those quills? It would improve her appearance and keep her from gitting hung up on them. She should molt those quills as they usually molt flight feathers when they are qrounded to care for the goslings anyway.

i didnt think i should, if its a good idea, than i might, i always thought they would be like dog nails and bleed out, but if most people do it, than ill consider it

Sorry, My post was not exactly clear. I did not mean to imply that clipping feathers on angel winged birds was a general practice. Actually if appears that few people do it. I did it on one that kept getting the long quills hung up in the hardware cloth next to her nest. When I would check on her she would move fast and let out a little yelp as the movement pulled her flight feathers on her wingtips.
judge for yourself, if the stress and hassle of trying to clip her isn't going to improve her life, don't do it.
BTW the feather sticking out are about the same as what would be clipped if you were trying to keep her flightless.
