my guineas are coming tomorrow

I'd up it to 15 if you are hatching the eggs. If you get 12 to hatch, you're doing fine. Loose 1-2 keets and now you're down to 10. 2 move in with the neighbors....down to 8. Guinea math. I started with 13 keets and ending up with 9 by the time they got out of the brooder. Haven't lost one in a year.

Thanks Percheron chick and hotcookie. Maybe I will order another 7 eggs to hat h after the first run is done incubating. How long does it take for them to start eating ticks?

I'm interested in getting Guineas to keep wtih my chickens...We just got 8 Red Comet Chicks, and I was thinking of getting 6 Guinea hens (though now I'm wondering if I should get 10...) Has anyone here had luck keeping them in the same coop as chickens?

I put my Keets with my hens at 6 Weeks. I think they are tamer than they otherwise would of been. 2 roost everynight in the coop and the others about 50% of the time. I think raising them with chicks would take some of the wildness out of them.

I have my guineas in a hut with my ducks and ducklings oh and my drake and they do just great, they also spend time in the chicken hut and they appear to get along greatly. They all free range in the day. When I first got my Guinea's they shared the chickens hut, and I had no issues what so ever, but that was always going to be temporary as they needed to have some space which I didn't have in the chicken hut. Anyway I am sure things will work out and as per usual some integrating does take a little time, but nothing too long..

All the best ...I just loveeeeeeeeeeeee Guineas....

Hello:

Please do keep us posted on how the Drake and the Guineas go along. I have not heard or done this.
When I moved onto a rental farm some time ago (done with that now) we had zillions of freaki'n grass hoppers.
I mean it was so bad that when you mowed they would fly up into your face by the hundreds.
I got 16 Guineas and within 4 to 5 months there was not a grass hopper to be had on 40 plus acres.
I mean these guys would comb each acrre methodically until they had them all.
I also remember the tick population went down pretty good.
I think guinea hens are about as commical as one can get.
I get a few laughs outa them daily.

Oh the drake and guineas get along FANTABULOUS! They have been housed together for several months and no issues what so ever, in fact my drake has a crush on my female guinea.....it is so cute to see. Each night when they go to bed and my male guinea who has been going up in a tree, well each night the female guineas perches on a branch I have in their hut and the drake sits nose to nose with then guinea and she preens my drake...they also spend time together in the paddock sometimes they just sit near each other....In fact all my ducklings get along with the guineas, but the drake especially gets along with them...I shall try and get some pics for you...
