Thanks for the comments. I have only had guineas for a couple months, so my experience is limited. My understanding is they can be very tame with daily handling for long periods of time as keets. This isn't something I could do, and my main purpose is to have them range for bug control. We have ticks horrible in the spring and I want the guineas to help that. The guineas will let me touch them only when I feed them. If I sit on the ground they will climb on me looking for food. They are flighty birds. I plan to keep them penned up until spring to condition them to stick around. I also don't free feed, I take food out twice a day so they will come running to me when they see me. This will make it easier to gather them when free. I wouldn't call mine great pets though, I enjoy them, but have silkies for pets. Its pretty cool to see a flock of guineas fly to you to for food though! They fly really well!
