OH good Granny, I just got bit on the lip tonite....no kidding, from the "tame one"gave me a fat lip. Then five minutes later my so called tame hen Agnes bit my nose... whwats going on here? I noticed the boy guineas are standing up and flapping like my roosters do? is this also a guy thing>?

the flapping is a sign of dominance . you poor thing.make sure you clean it best you can. they are considered wild animals. i didnt jinks you.lol they must be starting to get sexualy active and picking and choosing and you are not on their list.

Hi Granny,
Sorry have been super busy. Daughter was here from college for the new year holiday. Whooptydoo. have my half empty nest back now. Thank god.Thought my sanity was going to go by the wayside for a second....you know shes 21 next week and thinks she knows EVERYTHING...Who's she kidding, I know everything. LOL. Anyway, the birds are ok,. the lip is healling. But I had to put tarps on the outside run a day ago and one of my Guineas is letting me know she does NOT like it not ONE LITTLE BIT. As loud as she can. Im starting to worry about her. She started Buckwheating so long and loud that I'm worried she's going to go hoarse, and part of me is praying for it. I've contemplated bringing her in and wrapping her up in a blankey to rock her for a bit, but my lip can't take it. And I have a definite biter in the bunch now. a maybe little boy that i have named Cabo. He bit me three times when I brought him in the other day. Because of the bands I have put on their legs (my hair bands, different colors for each bird, wrapped three times around ) I bring them inside to hold and inspect that the band is not too loose or tight. Well they don't like it. Not one bit. Seems like the little girls are better about it than the boys though. Althoughthey all like their necks rubbed....I worry that because I took them from mama that maybe they never got to know a "motherlytouch". It tdoesnt do a lot for the guilt I still carry for separating them. I should mention that Im Catholic too, so guilt is an ingrained part of my psyche i think...just ask my parents.....Anyway I will take pics soon, and try to post. Other than that how was your holidays and how are you and your birds doing? Hope all is well. I don't know if you also have chickens or not but if you do I have a question about eggbound hens for you.... but I have written enough already for now....take care.
Theresa and The Pearl Grey tribe of heathens....

you could possible replace your hairbands for some colored zip ties? no need to feel guilt, the mother would have left them long ago. they know this and are doing the same to you. just like our children they are seeking their independence from mama. they know it all. lol do I have chickens?? only about 75 of them but there is more in the bator. chicken math, never heard of it until i joined BYC but i knew what it was as soon as i heard the word.you are quite the lucky one to have a daughter in collage. i have one with 6 kids and my son is autistic 20 yr. old that knows everything too. you would think with all the genius teens in the world we would have stopped world hunger by now.i never had an egg bound hen but i have read up on it some. oh, and the guineas unfortunately will not lose there voice, it only gets louder. normally they only do that when something is out of place. ie: tarp, cat walking across the yard, leaf blowing in the wind.
