My guineas are stupid.

I've been letting them out to free range when I'm home to watch them. I have several diffrent fenced areas for the other animals.

The guineas seem to have a very hard time remembering that they had to go up and over to get IN there. They just run back and forth along the fence squawking. They see the chickens go over the fence... just makes them run back and forth faster and squawk louder..

I hope they get smarter as they get older...

Welcome to the world of guineas! The dumbest birds on the planet!!!

They say it takes 6 guineas to make 1 brain.

My guineas are about 7 months old and I notice that the males and two of the females will go over the fence just fine (especially if there is a top rail that they can jump on and over), but the females that are the lowest on the pecking order are the ones that run back and forth for hours.

It's stressing me out. I say rude things to them from the house window. They can't hear me because they're screaming bloody murder.
So my dog an I have to try to push them like sheep through the gates....not very effective.

How do the taste on the spicket?...lol

Sorry, but such a vivid image! I have a friend who says "For all the guineas in the world there is only one brain cell. And it is never your guinea's turn to have it." Mine have not been really bright either. In fact, we ended up naming our male guinea Dumas. It's because I was afraid my son would repeat to his Sunday school teacher that "Mommy named our guinea dumba$$!" At least this way I can tell her "It's pronounced Dumas".

My guineas do a trick...If I yell at them to get in the barn, they all come running and go straight into the barn, but I agree, they are not smart at all, as soon as they go in they all turn right around and run right back out. It is really funny and I have entertained family and friends several times. Now if I can only get them to learn "STAY" it will make putting them in at night much easier!

We have 6 that are around 2 years old and are fairly calm and quiet. Then there are the 6 that are 4 month old "teen agers". Patience and a good sense of humor are getting me through the next few months until the teens calm down. I keep my gate keys on me at all times for when they go over the wall and can't remember how to get back. They are not bright, but they have been smart enough to train me in the fine art of handling guineas!
