My first four Rhode Island Red chicks from my breeding are now home with me. :clap And Fred has 11 Nelson and some Kittle eggs to hatch for me. :flAnd my Nelson hen to add to his to make a mating trio instead of just his hen to his cockerel. (little brother of mine) I'll get some from that grouping too.

Since it turned cool and damp...and they aren't completely feathered I am keeping them indoors for two weeks. Scored a melon box at meijers when I got my groceries. :yesss: So the box is on the dining room table with a hardware screen over it to keep my cats from getting in!

They have eaten, found the water and looked at the grass plug and bathed in the litter!! All is calm and they are resting now. We will see how first night here goes and when I find my camera I promise to attempt photos. One has found the wood I poked from side to side holes and is up roosting! Other three are stretched out in liter.

Congratulations on getting your chicks home! Hope everybody does well!

Thanks Kelsie! They are Kittle Reds. Mr Kittle was the one who bred back toward ASAP.
Also have a Nelson Cockerel. The Nelson hen is visiting my breeding partner (and my cockerels brother) while I am treating the Kittle flock for sneezing. If they are well in a few weeks the chicks can go in their grow out pen inside the coop with just a heat lamp if they are feathered enough.

By then ones in the incubator should be ready for the brooding box. And sent some yesterday to Fred to hatch.

Next year I begin the heavy culling/selection for breeding according to ASAP guideline for my heritage flock of RIR. Work ahead of me. Still looking for my camera!
