He did not do as directed then he got up. When you don't do as directed there's going to be a fight.
So at what point do you want the cops to walk away ?
Tell me what you would have done different ?
And in what reality is it ok to beat someone to death to accomplish submission? Did you watch the video? Would YOU have used those words? Would have "just beat his face in because my taser ran out"?

I cannot tell you what I would have done differently because I am not an officer of the law. What I can tell you is that without a doubt, those men beat that kid to death. With no valid reason. You still keep hitting someone crying "Daddy! They are killing me!"? You use your taser so many times you run out of charges and that whole senario seems ok with you?

He was also screaming that he couldn't breath but if you cant breath you cant scream. Please stop calling him a kid. when you use up your taser and the person is still fighting you you beat them with the taser or you shot them. you have to get control before he pulls a gun out and shots you.

Obviously he meant that he was having trouble breathing. He died (at least partially) because he stopped breathing (fluid, lung damage).

As the devils advocate I would ask why a mentally ill person is allowed to live homeless in our cities if they are a danger to themselves and others to the point the cops are forced to respond?

I do think the cops went way too far though.

The cop actually threatened him with his fists - Thats NOT okay for cops to do. Lots of cops have a problem with how this was handled, too - they know this was an abuse of power.

As to what I would do differently.... Well watch the video. No way no how do they need to sit on him and bounce on him. (kind of hard to breathe with a bunch af fat cops crushing you) COD: Asphyxiation/crushed windpipe) They could have put him in the patrol car or hog tied him. They know he's mentally ill, so they can do a 51-50 and have him hospitalized (standard procedure). I probably wouldnt bash someone in the face until thier eyeball turns black from bood - Read the autopsy report and look at the diagrams - all those broken bones in his face .Tasing him until the taser ran out probably not a good idea either, unless you are trying to torture someone, which is what they were doing. Face it.

Such a good question. It really stems back to Reagan and the de-institutionalization of mental health facilities. There was so much abuse of that system that many peoples rights were violated, it was corrupt, etc. Plus it was costly, so it was a cost cutting measure. Now the penal system serves as out "mental institutions". Watch this for a real eye opener: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/asylums/

And he would not have died if he put his hands behind his back. He didn't want to be arrested. Did the cops know he wasn't a wanted killer or child molester ?
They tried to use the sticks first when that didn't work they tried the taser when that didn't work they hit him. At any point he could have ended it by complying.

Uh, yes he would (be dead). You know how I know? He tried to comply and they just continued to beat him and he died. Theres a video of the whole killing. Kind of hard to comply when those beating you have lost interest in making you comply in favor of beating you now that they have an excuse.

I have spoked to two people in law enforcement, one a cop in LA. Both said there was nothing excusable about this incident. Both were disgusted.
