I've been around my fair share of officers, and I have known some wonderful ones, and some that scare the crap out of me. what's sad is how many of the DV victims that come through our local women's shelter, are running from police husband/boyfriends. The new sheriff has helped to put a stop to a lot of that in this area, but the local shelter still gets women from other counties with the same problem. the new sheriff has made a name for herself being tough on domestic violence and when she ran for sheriff everyone in the local shelter and crises services groups voted for her. I hope she stays for years to come.I was married to a police officer for 6 years. They used to have " choir practice " at our house eg. sit around all night get drunk and tell stories. Some of the stuff they got away with would have put anyone else in the penitentiary. This happened over 30 years ago in a rural town outside Chicago. It's gotten a lot worse since then. There is no excuse for what they did but believe me, some have done worse. They just haven't got caught yet.
