I'll leave it open to drain at your suggestion.

I'm going to try to pick up what I need to drain her today and do a little more research on the procedure. I was a vet assistant for a while but that was a long time ago and this is something the Dr or a registered tech would do. So, I'm comfortable doing it, just not experienced and obviously I would not want to accidentally nick an intestine or

So far she is still doing well and eating and such, but so was the other girl until she dropped dead on day 10 of not laying. She did not seem to have any or as much fluid, though.

@mrsheimfarmsok look at this thread if you have not already https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/506157/think-that-my-girl-has-ascites-update-chicken-better/30 it talks about draining, if you make the decision to do that

@mrsheimfarmsok

How is she doing?

ETA I just want to update that she started laying again on Monday 5/1 and has laid each day since. They are bit smaller and not as round as before. I am still not sure what happened but I am happy she is doing better and hope whatever was wrong has passed. Her total time of not laying was about 2 weeks and I started her on Duramycin-72 (200mg) about 5 days after she stopped because I was certain she was on death's bed so I decided to try it just in case it could save her. She got her final dose this past Monday evening even though she laid that day since I didn't want to stop the antibiotics early, just in case. I really don't care about the eggs, I just don't want my girls ill or suffering for any reason :(

My Amercauna hen appears egg bound. Walking like a penguin and swollen abdominal area. I've lubed up and put my pinky in her vent up to 2in and I don't feel an egg. I've massaged her abdomen and I don't feel an egg. I've soaked her in warm water with Epsom salts and put some preparation h in her vent. She did poop over night. She ate some grapes. What else can I do? I've read give her tums in a scrambled egg. I'm doing that next
Just wondering if your chicken survived. My chook has the same symptoms, still eating and drinking.

Hen is in bad shape. Can’t stand up long, doesn’t eat or drink. Vent is pulsing like she’s egg bound but I do not feel an egg. Abdominal is swollen and she will not move unless we move her. Any ideas or should we go ahead and put her down?
