My young hen has suddenly quit laying. My husband thinks she is stressed. She used to lay daily. She hasn't laid an egg for a little over a week now. I introduced 6 new young hens to the flock gradually. They are now all together in a large pen/coop. My husband thinks that I need to put my original two hens and the rooster back in the first coop and see if she starts laying again. Suggestions?

Yes, I'm guessing she is just stressed by the new birds. Don't separate them, just give her time. She'll get back to laying soon. If you separate them it will stress her even more.

How old is your "young hen", in months?
How old are the new birds?

How big is the " large pen/coop", in feet by feet?
Dimensions and pics would help here.

Sorry for all the Q's, but the devil is in the details.

Oh, and..... Welcome to BYC! @aembry1
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

I have updated my profile now. Sorry, I am new to all this. My young hen just started laying this spring. The new birds are now about 12 weeks old. The pen is 10 ft x 10 ft. I'm located in Western Kentucky. We just had a heat wave and I lost one of my original hens to the heat. I don't have a picture to include of the pen yet because I'm in the process of attaching the original pen to the new pen for my chickens to have even more room to roam. I can't let them out of the coop due to neighborhood dogs. The pen is covered to protect them from birds and I also have used chicken wire around the coop and buried it so far into the ground to further protect my guys.
