My hen is crowing

Connie my 3 year old polish had bumblefoot and was in isolation in a dog crate in the kitchen for a few weeks while we treated it. After about 2 weeks she started crowing around mid morning on weekends! We would hear her in bed if we were having a lie in, but then she started occasionally doing it when we were downstairs with her! Not sure if she did it while we were at work during the week.... :lau

My favorite hen is crowing! Can a hen crow? It appears now I have 3 roosters and 4 hens. Unless a hen can crow? Is it possible? Penny crowed several times after I picked up my rooster. Maybe the hen was upset I took her rooster? They were definite crowing s by her (him?)?

I have had two crowing hens. The first was definitely the alpha and was lost to a predator. Now, my girlie, Tillie, who has been alone for a couple months has begun crowing. Her sister was the alpha, but, sadly, a coon got into the coop and killed her. Wendigo was the vocal one and Tillie would occasionally chirp a bit, but, nothing more. Living in the country, I think she can hear other roosters and is copying them. When she's is ready to get out, we know it!

When we went to get a sister for Tillie, we ended up coming home with three chicks. They are ready to join Tillie as soon as we build a bigger, better, and more secure coop and completely covered run.

We have quite a group, Tillie is a gorgeous Australorp, the new chirpies are a pair of German Bielefelder named Sinbad and Cleopatra, and, a Jubilee Orpington hen named Wendigo Louise, aka Weazie!
