So I noticed this morning, my very dominant hen is crowing.... Or trying her very hardest to mimic a rooster, which I do not have. How can I stop this?? All of my other hens are so quiet, except for JuWan (my neice named her). And I know it's a hen because I watched her lay an egg yesterday morning. Lol. It wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't live in a neighborhood or in such close proximity to my HOA president... He is an acre away.

Her name may be the problem!

jk I wish I had an answer I don't know. Just loved her name lol.

This is generally caused by some issue with one or both of the ovaries. It could be diseased, damaged or simply just stopped working.

I have had this pop up over 40 years of being around chickens.

Couple things.

1. I've never had a hen develop the noise level of a rooster. It is generally very course, short and sweet.
2. The hens I've had crow have never done it for long.
3. They continue to lay.

Thanks scooter!! She just started laying about 5 days ago, and she is only 19wks. Her "crow" is in fact very course but it does carry quite a ways...
