My hen is dying!

I didn’t realize my message clearly had so many typos, my apologies.

Yes, I meant beak…. 🙊 There is a bad odor, she hasn’t been able to eat or drink on her own, although she did manage some watermelon and the smallest amount of crumble yesterday. She is now severely malnourished but seems to be a fighter… I am trying to make a humane decision. I will read the link on sour crop, it’s not impacted. Thank you.
A bad odor from the beak could be Sour Crop.

Is she now able to stand and move about?

The treatment(s) in the article are what I use when addressing crop symptoms. If you have questions, please let us know. Do remember that often crop symptoms are a result of an underlying condition, so since she's struggling with presumably something else, this may be why the crop is sluggish and has turned sour.

No she isn’t standing… but more alert during the day and clucking contently occasionally. However I do agree with your comment on there being an underlying condition… I’m just hoping it isn’t contagious.

After reading the link I believe she has
@BauerWFarm can you clarify your post?

Do you mean that she has a bad odor coming from her beak? What does her crop feel like? She may have Sour Crop(?) Does she have any lesions or yellow sores/canker inside the beak (?)

Is she not able to eat/drink on her own?

After reading the link sent, I think it is more likely she had an underlying bacterial infection possibly…. The wound and vent have improved greatly. However, she has lost so much weight her breast bone protrudes. Still you find her clucking occasionally. I do not have peace of mind with all the weight she has lost because she isn’t eating enough to put weight back on.

I loved the reading, it is very informative and could help in the future. I also didn’t mind the comment on massaging the crop if lumpy because I have done that occasionally to a few of my hens There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with them; I did it more out observation and checking over their bodies.
