Hi, I'm new to Backyard Chickens, and I have a problem with one of my hens and was wondering if anyone has any advice?
My hen was attacked by dog and survived, torn off tail feathers and a few holes under wings. Did fine for few days, however, now she has stopped eating and drinking ( I am forcing water by using a dripping faucet. She is hobbling around with her neck pulled in toward her body. Could it be a pulled neck muscle? No damage to neck. ” I scrambled some eggs today and she did eat some of them.

Welcome to BYC. Sorry about your chicken. A picture of her may help to tell us if she could have wry neck or she is puffed up (that would be the neck positioning you describe.) Wry neck can be caused by a head or neck injury, and can be treated with poultry vitamins (B1, E, and selenium are important.) If she is puffed up or hunching, she may just be hurting. Since she is not eating or drinking well, she could have some internal injuries. You could give a baby aspirin twice daily by mouth or in her food for pain.

Thank you so much for your input. I don't believe it's wry neck after looking at pictures of other hens. She is puffed up a bit and hunched so you might be right about her just hurting. She has survived another night. I believe she is feeling better. She just started pecking at some grass this a.m., first time in a week. How do I get her to take a baby aspirin? She barely eats eggs. Really appreciate your help. Oh by the way, I'm not very technical, don't know how add a pic.
