Hi, I noticed that my hen is making these coughing/wheezing sounds when she breathes. I am not able to get a video of it at the moment, but I will try my best to describe it. She also has just started sneezing today, and she has clear discharge coming from her nostrils. I noticed her breathing on Saturday, and it has not really gotten any better or any worse. Other than that, she basically acts normal. She still eats and drinks fine, and seems as active as usual. For awhile she stopped laying, but she laid an egg today. After doing some research on this, I figured it is some sort of respiratory infection. I have already started giving her some more natural remedies, to boost her immune system and just to help keep her healthy. I read that for some cases of respiratory infections, you can use VetRX, so I was wondering if I could use this to treat her, IF that is what the problem.

Thanks for any help and tips! :frow

Respiratory diseases spread quickly through a flock. If you havnt noticed other birds with the symptoms, it may not be a respiratory disease. It could be something in the environment causing what you're seeing. Here are some examples; mold spores, ammonia fumes from soiled bedding, pesticide use, pollen, dust baths, DE, excess dander in coops, feed dust or inhalation of feed granule. Check all of these issues first before medicating and observe your other birds for similar symptoms.
